Communicatiekaravaan naar het WSF

Honderden jongeren uit sociaal-artistieke projecten reizen, in karavaan, door het arme Braziliaanse binnenland naar het Wereld Sociaal Forum in Belém, aan de monding van de Amazone. Onderweg organiseren ze workshops en exposities en mobiliseren de plaatselijke bevolking met debatten en gezamelijke activiteiten. Bij aankomst tonen ze hun resultaten en bevindingen aan de internationale deelnemers van het WSF (27 jan. – 2 feb. 2009)
Voor 20,00 Euro wordt U erelid en helpt hiermee jongeren in Noordoost Brazilië om hun leefwereld, maatschappijvisie en specifieke problemen op de publieke agenda te krijgen.

De namen van de ereleden staan op de website van de Karavaan onder de rubriek ‘Membros de Honra’
De ereleden krijgen achteraf een copie van de video van de reis.

Minha palavra para o mundo

Next month I'm off again to Brazil.
In the slipstream of the video workshop I gave in Recife in februari, I now participate in a big journey with 275 youngsters from the social projects in North East Brazil to The World Social Forum in Bélem.
The project is called Caravana de comunicação e juventude.

I travel with CCJ (Centro de Comunicação e Juventude) from Recife, Pernambuco and we will be joined by other busses from the states of Ceará, Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte and Piauí. Meanwhile we do stops - several days - in the inland to give creative workshops for the locals and activate the debate on the themes of the WSF.

Of-course I'll be making a video project.
It's called 'Minha palavra para o mundo' (my word for the world).
We 'll collect words out of the communities we pass,
to take them with us to the WSF.
We invite people to pose for our cameras next to their written word and ask them to explain why this word should be heard, seen and debated on the WSF.
I hope that our creative workshops play with those words and combine them to messages to be exposed in Bélem and further.
