Copa Favela 2014

Copa Favela is a contemporary art project, an urban intervention, without money, without structure. It's a research into the power of ideas in popular art amongst the communities.

"Copa Favela 2014" is a platform that unites everything that has to do with “World Cup Brazil 2014” and the people from the outskirts.

While the FIFA is spreading the good news about the World Cup 2014, Copa Favela will report about the reality in the communities.

Copa Favela 2014 is the "Caneco das Peladas"
(caneco is the plastic cup used by the poor, pelada is bare foot soccer from the streets, organized on the spot without money).
During the soccer mega-happening, we will play pelada, make art and talk about the reality in the communities without FIFA's consent.

Recife is één van de 12 steden waar de FIFA de wereldbeker voetbal van 2014 zal organiseren. Via Mangue is één van de toegangswegen naar het nieuwbouw mega-stadium op 20 km buiten de stad. De regering is begonnen met de opkuis van de favelas van die Via Mangue. De regering biedt 5000 Real (2.108,00 Euro) voor wie zelfstandig zijn krotwoning verlaat. Niemand aanvaardt dit en dus worden de grote middelen ingezet:

Stel dat we er in slagen om bv. world wide te mobiliseren om ons aluminium verbruik drastisch te beperken, zou ze dat niet raken in hun financieel hart en hun neoliberale hersenkwabben een infarct bezorgen?
Power OF the people, we zijn allemaal consumenten en we moeten beseffen dat ons koopgedrag, elke aankoop, hoe klein ook, deze domme marktgerichte evolutie stuurt.
